In 1961, 400 ordinary Americans risked everything by challenging segregation in the Deep South. Greeted by mob violence & bitter racism, many endured savage beatings and even imprisonment. They were the FREEDOM RIDERS, and they brought the nation face to face w/ the challenge of correcting civil rights inequities. Follow their journey on Gowalla in honor of the 50th anniversary of the historic rides, & celebrate their legacy w/ a documentary film airing Monday, May 16th at 9/8c on PBS. http://www.pbs.org/freedomriders |
